Most of my images are far from traditional photography, and yes, I do use Photoshop as one of my tools, just as I would have used fun things in the actual darkroom back in the days when I was still using silver and sulfuric acid based processing. My images start as photographs, but usually are sandwiched with multiple layers to a more surreal color gamut and filtered effects to pull out the most essential details.

I sign each archival-quality print output from an Epson 2000P printer that uses archival quality pigmented inks and paper combinations that are rated to last approximately 100 years. Each print is treated with a UV fixative for extra protection against light damage. Most prints on printed on an Epson luster (pearlized) finish. Contact me if you'd like your print on canvas or a different kind of photo paper (watercolor, velvet, or glossy).

Prints are created on demand and shipped in flat photo mailers (4x6, 5x7, 8x10, 11x14) or in a mailing tube (13x19) by US postal service first class within 5-7 business days.

If you see an image (photographic or art) anywhere within this website that you'd like to have as a print, just send me an email with your request and include the title or a brief description of the item and the size print you'd like to have. Standard print sizes and prices are 4x6 $5.00; 5x7 $7.00; 8x10 $16.00; 11x14 $32.00; and 13x19 $50.00.

Despite the threat of the West Nile virus I enjoyed the peace of this setting sun blasting the branches of the trees and this heron nest into pure silhouette. This composition is reminiscent of a school exercise that used blobs of ink, a straw, and my wind power to propel the ink in various directions. The nests caught high above the waters at Almond Marsh, Illinois and the use of a sepia-tone filter were the basis for this exciting sunset, which I digitally enhanced with reds, blues, and purple to change the mood.

Who would think that reducing the nesting grounds of large wading birds to the primary color elements could produce such a stunning backdrop for this silhouette? A sunset through the branches at Almond Marsh (Libertyville, Illinois). Enhanced color saturation coupled with a reduced color palette yields “standard” background primaries of red, yellow, and blue.

Hat's off to the design of the Gateway Arch: it is an absolutely stunning work regardless of how you look at it. This grainy view is from the base of the Arch in St. Louis, lying on my back looking upward. As a point of information, Eero Saarinen’s design uses the most structurally-sound arch shape known as a catenary curve, which is the shape of a free-hanging chain held at both ends. Image contains reticulated shades of cyan, blue, and black.

What is this photogenic young male watching? Perhaps he was just avoiding the tenacious photography, but this expression shows how similar these apes can be to humans. Well worth a patient wait at the Guinea Baboon pit at Brookfield Zoo just for the glint in his eyes from the late afternoon sun.

Focus on a single bloom in an otherwise ordinary bouquet plus some extreme color manipulation and layering effects released the creative energy burst I needed to prepare for a gallery event.

Although I felt like there were only three seasons during my tenure in Nashville, Tennessee-way too hot spring and summer, briefly icy January, and way too brief fall--I made sure that I spent time outside in the fall, just so I could catch the glitter of this little band of gold.

These horses seemed willing to nonchalantly pose for the camera: one horse gazes from inside the weathered red barn, while the other nibbles on what little grass remains in a decidedly dry summer.

I liked the horizontal and vertical elements of this forest floor, where the natural reseeding (and feeding) process occurs. In this portion of Custer State Park in South Dakota, the trees are mostly red pine. Image contains subtle earthy tones and a muted forest green.

The Pacific shoreline in the La Jolla Cove area offers a nice sampling of wildlife (gulls, pelicans, and seals), a gathering place for swimmers, shoppers, and fishermen, and a beautiful blue ocean with white-capped waves.

On a foggy morning, this young man was among a huge group on the walkway to and from Clingmans Dome, the highest point along the Appalachian Trail in the Great Smoky Mountains. Despite the crowds, the timing for his walk makes him seem like he's the only one there, and in deep thought, to boot. Image contains primarily blue-greens with pale violet accents.

On a visit to an upscale rural gallery, I happened to linger in front of the neighboring old building covered in vines. The rich green grass contrasts the fallen golden leaves, the weathered door, and the undetectable yet frigid ambient temperature.
